ACTING 101

Learn the fundamentals of acting through exercises in basic improvisation skills, scene study and monologues. Explore and develop all the actor's artistic tools: body, voice and imagination. Students will learn to be both quicker on their feet and freer with their minds. Character monologues will be chosen and analyzed to stretch and develop the student's natural gifts of expression. This class is designed for full group participation as well as carefully tailored one-on-one work. The atmosphere is friendly, highly supportive, stimulating and fun.

CHORAL MUSIC ENSEMBLE

This course teaches the basics of good choral singing and basic musicianship. Students will learn harmonies, different music styles, and have the opportunity to perform solo and duets. Course will end in a live performance.

FASHION FUN

This exciting class offers students the chance to experience and explore fashion and pattern making. The course is tailored to meet the needs of young novices who want to learn and practice the art of patternmaking for fashion studies. Tutor-led demonstrations will provide the starting point from which they will practice and develop their skills and aesthetic values. All materials and equipment included.

GRAPHIC DESIGN & DIGITAL ART

Students will have the opportunity to learn about the history, principles and purposes of graphic design and modern digital art. Students will acquire basic skills in design, composition, drawing, typography, collage and effective use of technology to create unique and effective works of art and design. Students will learn both new and old techniques for graphic design, and will develop real world ideation, innovation, problem-solving, and revision skills as they create pieces to meet the needs of fictitious clients. Students will walk away with invaluable resume skills and a taste of how art could become a future career path for them.

DRAWING & PAINTING

Students will have the opportunity to explore the media of drawing and painting in greater depth. Students will learn the methods, processes and techniques of the basic drawing and painting media, including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, marker, pastel, watercolor and acrylic. Students will learn and apply realistic techniques, along with expressionist concepts and styles to create original pieces for personal expression and social impact. Students will explore several famous artists and art styles within drawing and painting, and will develop their skills, conceptual knowledge and unique creative voice.

MAKEUP FOR STAGE & SCREEN

Learn tips and techniques from an established film, television and print makeup artist. Explore this fun and exciting art form that can be turned into a professional career! You’ll learn about and tools of the trade, facial structure and feature study, foundation selection and conceal and correct techniques. You’ll dabble in special effects makeup such as creating a realistic black eye, a bloody injury and aging using highlight and shadow. Get ready for the red carpet with basic beauty training including hands-on application of foundation, concealer, contour and highlight, basic beauty eyes, smokey eyes, fake lashes, eyeliner, brows and lips. Meets once per week for 8 weeks.

MUSIC ACADEMY

Students will have the opportunity to explore music through a variety of genres including singing, songwriting, musical theatre, jazz, choral music, and instruments - including how to play the ukulele. Students will hear from music professionals and learn about careers in the music industry. The class will end with a performance by the students. Includes a professional performance assembly and all materials.

MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP

In this 2 hour workshop, students have a fun time exploring the music of Broadway!  Includes Leonard Bernstein’s “I Feel Like I’m Not Out of Bed Yet” to work on breath control, yawning, and warming up high and low notes.  "Summer Lovin' " is an exercise that teaches the student to ask and answer questions in songs, to look for the deeper meaning in the lyric.  In the last half of the class we will teach and choreograph, “Come Follow the Band” by Michael Stewart, and Cy Coleman. The class will perform the piece at the end.  Our core philosophy is “less talking, more singing!”

PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY

Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of performing arts classes including acting for film/tv stage combat, improvisation, singing, voiceovers, special effect makeup and technical theatre. Students will have fun, expand creativity and learn about the careers available both in front of and behind the scenes. Students will hear from working professionals about their experience and learn about careers available in the performing arts. The class will end with a performance by the students. Includes a professional performance assembly and all materials.

PLAYING IT OUT

In this fun course students find peer group support in a nurturing and creative environment using the expressive arts. Let go of stress and find joy in playing while building confidence, leadership skills, and spontaneity! Each class builds upon the other with process focused group improvisation, trust building, action oriented goal setting and the practice new outcomes. This course promises to be Playful, Meaningful, and Extraordinarily Unique! "It's a happy talent to know how to play!"- Ralph Waldo Emerson.

WRITING for STAGE or SCREEN

Do you have a story that you’re dying to tell? We’ll explore writers, writing and most of all—getting your story down on paper. This class will be equal parts active (we’ll write, of course), constructive (we’ll break it down, to build it up) and appreciative (we’ll see what other writers are doing these days). We’ll help you turn your idea into a play, film or tv show!

PHOTOGRAPHY & FILM

Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of digital photography and film-making. They will learn how to use a professional camera, how to take a variety of shots and how to tell a story through their lens. They will explore important photographic and cinematic concepts and techniques, and will have the opportunity to create their own unique works of art. They will learn how to convey meaning through a variety of visual elements and styles, and will conclude the course with their own short film and batch of stills. They will walk away with new skills and a sampling of two lucrative creative careers.

SCULPTURE & CERAMICS

Students will have the opportunity to explore the 3D arts of sculpture and ceramics. Students will learn and apply methods, processes and techniques in modeling, carving, assemblage and ceramic production. Students will acquire basic skills and historical appreciation as they create personally meaningful works of art. Students will also learn about the use of alternative materials and the importance of safe handling.

SINGING

Students will learn breath support, vocal technique, how to learn a song, how to perform a song, and song selection. Students will work on songs from selected repertoire and perform them in a class setting.

SONGWRITING

In this 8 week class Students learn how to write song lyrics, discover the structure of a song, create melodies and how to effectively put it all together.

STAND UP COMEDY

Taught by stand up comedy pro Michael Vinton, this course will cover warm up techniques and improv exercises to ready the body and mind to work creatively. Students will gain confidence as they learn how to turn personal experiences into comedic material from the notion that comedy can come out of drama. From writing to performance, the course will cover different aspects of good storytelling and guide the students in creating a two-minute stand up set by the end of the course. ‘Set up and punch’ joke writing will also be covered at a beginner’s level.

SOCIAL MEDIA SUPERSTARS!

Want to have your own YouTube show or be a social media influencer? This course begins with the fundamentals of safe practices for social media and pit falls to avoid. It also covers the impact social media carries and the extent to which it influences consumers. How to define, establish and expand a personal brand through multiple social platforms will be discussed. The students will learn several methods to expand their social media awareness in a positive way, including but not limited to creating a YouTube channel, crowdsourcing and IGTV.

VISUAL ARTS ACADEMY

Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of visual arts mediums including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and graphic design. Students will acquire basic skills and historical appreciation as they create personally meaningful works of art. Students will hear from professional artists about their experience and learn about careers available in the visual arts. The class will end with an art show featuring the work of the students. Includes all materials.

YOUNG CHEF'S KITCHEN

Fun in the kitchen with a professional chef! During this 8 week intro course you’ll create yummy recipes, discover the science of food, and learn about different cooking methods.  Healthy eating, nutrition, dining etiquette, and careers in the culinary arts will also be discussed.
