Arts for Youth Summer provides valuable arts education to the students of your community, giving them a fun alternative to regular academic summer school, and a safe place to express themselves through art. At Accelerate we hope this program will also re-ignite love of learning, spark new passions and encourage these students to stay in school. Our 6-week summer program lets students choose from three different arts academies based on their area of interest: Performance, Visual Arts or Music. Over the four hour school day students rotate to a new field of study every 1-2 hours. No day or week will be the same. In addition to earning 5-10 units of elective credits, high school students will gain educational and personal growth through classes in music, theatre, dance and visual arts such as photography, painting, film making and graphic design.
Students enrolled Arts for Youth Summer classes complete curriculum requirements with talented arts teachers, experience vibrant small group classes taught by CTE credentialed artistic professionals, increase their appreciation of the arts through personal experience, and discover how participation in the arts can help them achieve their academic and personal goals.
Arts for Youth Summer classes include visits from Professional Guest Artists to work with the students once per week in workshop or Q&A settings. Students will learn what it’s like to have a job in the arts while gaining inspiration and valuable knowledge from these professionals. Students will also see a live performance from a professional traveling group such as the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Jazz It Up, or a Will & Company theatrical production. Arts for Youth Summer Programs that meet a minimum enrollment will also include a field trip to a performance, museum or concert.
