We know that teachers have a huge impact on the lives of kids. These classroom heroes are much more than educational instructors. They are also role models, guidance counselors, and mentors. They keep children grounded and help them overcome challenges. In certain communities teachers have to help their students deal with traumas of homelessness and poverty. Teachers can do what they do best when they feel supported and remember to take the time to take care of themselves. Accelerate’s Teacher Support workshops allow instructors to recharge, improve relationships, find new ways to problem solve and come away better energized to help kids.
DRAMA THERAPY WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
Drama Therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. It is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals. Through storytelling, projective play, purposeful improvisation, and performance, drama therapy invites people to rehearse desired behaviors, practice being in relationship, expand and find flexibility between life roles, and perform the change they wish to be and see in the world. This introductory experiential workshop will introduce participants to this powerful means for personal and therapeutic exploration and growth. No previous theater experience is necessary. Shy people are welcome!
TEACHER WELLNESS WORKSHOP
Do your teachers suffer from compassion fatigue? According to the mental health industry, anyone working with children has a higher risk for emotional burnout resulting from the weight of helping students in distress. This is especially true for teachers who work in communities with high rates of poverty, homelessness, abuse and violence. Helping teachers focus on self-care and wellness means they will be better energized to help kids. This class will teach methods teachers can use to monitor and relieve their own stress, how to build relationships with students through social-emotional activities, team tactics for supporting fellow teachers, how to develop a trauma-sensitive school, and strategies for trauma-sensitive classroom-management.
We offer Educator Wellness Retreats at two beautiful camps. Your faculty and staff can rejuvenate and team build at Blackbird Farm, a certified organic homestead in Northern California or at our Rocky Mountain Pathways Ranch, on 62 ½ acres the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Customizable programs are available.
